Roadshow to target doorstep conmen
A police roadshow is touring the area in a bid to stamp out distraction burglaries.
Officers have dedicated the week to talking to old folk to drive home their crime fighting message.
PSCOs have been visiting community centres and sheltered housing schemes to raise awareness of doorstep conmen.
Yesterday (Tuesday) PCSO Kim Ashworth met residents at Compass Point sheltered housing in Kitefield, Northchurch, near Berkhamsted.
Detective Inspector Dave Wheatley, who leads a specialist team of officers dedicated to combating distraction burglary called Operation Manhunt, said: "Awareness of this crime is the main way to prevent these conmen from continuing to operate in our county, which is why this week of concentrated activity is so important."
Officers are advising people not to open their front door if they are unsure about a caller, ask to see identification from callers before letting them in and never keep large amounts of cash at home.
To report suspicious activity dial 0845 33 00 222 or call 999 if you suspect a crime is in progress.
