A personal trainer who aimed to do 1,000 burpee exercises to raise £1,000 for charity managed to collect an extra £200 in donations after doing the challenge outside.

Rich Tabor from The Fitness Society in Berkhamsted sweated it out on Friday afternoon for local anti-knife crime charity Billy’s Wish, which was set up by Paul Dove after his son Billy was stabbed and killed in Hemel Hempstead town centre in November 2011.

Rich, who held the challenge on Berkhamsted High Street, said: “There was a constant crowd supporting me, which was nice.”

“Once I was finished I felt relieved, happy but very dizzy. I almost fainted on the stairs on my way back into the gym!”

Rich recovered by eating fruit to boost his sugar levels, and said his joints were very sore the next day.

Paul Dove said: “What an amazing challenge to do in memory of my son Billy – over £1,000 raised, thank you so much Rich.”
