ROADS in Dacorum have been hit by flash flooding as wet weather continues to hit the borough.

Cars on Leighton Buzzard Road in Hemel Hempstead, pictured, have been forced to struggle through rain-hit surfaces which have made driving conditions treacherous.

Dacorum is currently in a state of drought – and a temporary hosepipe ban remains in place – but there has been plenty of rain over recent weeks to suggest the water levels are on the rise.

And with further heavy rain forecast for the rest of today, driving conditions are set to remain tricky across the borough.

Part of a tree also collapsed on a parked car in St John’s Road, Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead.

The county council is also advising drivers to take it slow on the roads following the heavy rain.

Highways chief Stuart Pile said: “The extremely heavy rain overnight and this morning has inevitably caused flash flooding as well as bringing trees down in some areas.

“Crews from Hertfordshire Highways are busy around the county, clearing flooding and debris from roads. However, driving conditions are likely to be difficult for the rest of the day.

“It sounds obvious, but please allow extra time for journeys, leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front, steer and brake very gently and reduce your overall speed.

“Please also be very careful when driving through flood water – the water can easily be deeper than it first appears, plus there could be road damage under the surface.”
