A fox and badger found dead in Tring have sparked an investigation by Herts Police and the RSPCA.

The animals were discovered at the junction of Beggars Lane and Station Road by the rural police team on Thursday. The fox’s jaw appeared to be dislocated and it had string around its legs, while the badger was inside a plastic box.

PC Simon Tibbett said: “We are currently working to investigate how these animals met their death, and to see whether a crime has been committed or if there is an innocent explanation.”

RSPCA inspector Rachel Smith said: “The macabre discovery of dead animals left in this bizarre way with no obvious cause of death is alarming to say the least.”

If you have information, call the non-emergency police number 101.
