Hospital campaigner Betty Harris has been awarded the highly respected June Street Award.
Presented each year by Community Action Dacorum it recognises those who have dedicated their time voluntarily to support local community.
Retired primary school teacher, Betty, campaigns to keep services at Hemel Hempstead Hospital under the banner of Dacorum Hospital Action Group.
She is also a trustee of Age UK Dacorum and has been instrumental in setting up two stimulation groups for people with memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease.
She is described by one of her fellow volunteers as “a wonderfully lively volunteer with a ready wit who is always full of surprises.”
The June Street Award was instigated in 1999 to mark June’s retirement after 20 years as chief executive of the organisation, which was previously called Dacorum Council for Voluntary Service.
