A restaurant that was due to open its doors this month has postponed the big day to May as works continue to get the venue ready.

Porters in Covent Garden closed after almost 36 years to relocate to new premises in Berkhamsted. The move was brought about because the London building’s landlord is planning to redevelop.

Lothbury Property Trust has let the final unit in its Berkhamsted High Street retail block to Porters.

The upmarket eatery will be alongside existing occupiers M&S Simply Food and Costa Coffee and will including an outdoor seating area.

Director of Porters Restaurants Neil Wornham said: “Site selection for our new concept restaurant was incredibly important. We wanted to find somewhere that reflected the heritage that we have at Porters and would also provide somewhere memorable and exciting for customers. The new space at Berkhamsted is perfect.”

A statement on the company’s website, posted last year, said: “Our new Porters will be slick, contemporary and very shiny in places, somewhere that we will be very proud of and we will be concentrating all our efforts and working very hard to ensure that our clients are always welcome, cared for and that their custom is appreciated and never taken for granted.”
