A man in his 70s from Hemel Hempstead has died from his injuries after being involved in a collision with a pick-up truck this morning.
Paramedics and police were called to the scene in Lower Adeyfield Road at just before 6.50am.
Two fire crews from the nearby Queensway base also attended and helped to remove the pedestrian who was trapped beneath the vehicle, a silver Mitsubishi L200.
Lower Adeyfield Road and St Paul’s Road were closed from 7am until around 10am while the recovery took place.
The man was released using airmats – inflatable equipment used to raise a vehicle from the ground – and cutting equipment before being taken by ambulance to Watford General Hospital.
He died shortly after. His next of kin have been informed.
Herts Police spokesman Dan Phillips said the force will now be investigating the incident, which he described as a “serious road traffic collision”.
