Scouts from 10 groups across Hemel Hempstead revved into action on Saturday to compete in the 21st staging of the Pinewood Derby.
The 50 competitors have been working over recent weeks to transform their constructor’s kit of a block of wood, four wheels, four nails and four axles into a streamlined model car which kept within the rules but stood a chance of racing to victory.
And there was an enthusiastic crowd of scouts and supporters on hand to watch the drama unfold.
Cars were raced in two qualifying groups, and the fastest from each group went through to a grand final.
The event was sponsored by the Scout Association’s official retail partner, Cotswold Outdoors, who donated prizes of vouchers and goodies for the three best decorated cars and the three fastest cars.
John Larkin and his team from the 2nd Hemel Hempstead group organised the event.
