A FIRE crew from Hemel Hempstead used an air mat to lift a car that had an injured dog trapped underneath.

The service was called out at 7.30pm yesterday when a dog was hit by a car and propelled underneath the parked vehicle in Longfield Road, Hemel Hempstead.

Green Watch commander Greig Bescoby explained that Monty the black labrador was being walked by its owner and ran into the road when it saw another dog on the other side.

He said: “It was completely stuck underneath the car by its head and neck, which had got caught in the mechanisms.

A crowd of neighbours and passers-by gathered while the fire crew worked to free the pet.

Mr Bescoby said: “We have since heard that Monty spent the night at a vet and is expected to make a full recovery.”
