Not projects good enough for award

For the first time in 20 years an environment award has been dropped because of a shortage of worthy projects.

For two decades Berkhamsted Citizens Association (BCA) has awarded plaques and certificates to the best improvements or builds in the town from public and private buildings to green spaces.

However, this year the BCA has cancelled the award because no developments from last year were deemed good enough to commend.

BCA vice chairman Susan Johnson said: "It's a sign of the times. The amount of building work in Berkhamsted taking place is very low. We did managed to identify three domestic properties but none of those were remarkable.

"We felt we could not base and award on unremarkable buildings."
