Norman’s gift to Wilstone means he’ll always be thought well of
MCHG 12-836 Residents of Wilstone celebrate the official opening of their allotments and new well.
Allotments and a well that had been unused for 50 years were officially opened, thanks to a generous donation.
The late Norman Buchi, who passed away last year, left £5,000 in his will to pay for the restoration of the well at Wilstone Allotments.
A plaque in memory of him was unveiled at the well opening on Saturday, which was attended by a crowd of people from the village.
His son Phil Buchi said: “My dad wanted the money to be spent on a community project and because he was a civil engineer, I thought the well restoration would be a fitting project. He would have been fascinated by it.”
All of the 20 allotments at the site - that was gifted by the Rothschild family during the 19th century - are now in use.
