A NEW radio station will have its first live broadcast on Thursday.

Radio Dacorum, which is already streaming recorded music, will go live at 4pm with volunteer studio manager Matt Hatton at the helm.

Good cause Community Action Dacorum is behind the project and stepped in after Hemel FM shut down its station last year.

Around £10,000 - more than half of which came from funds raised by Councillor Roger Taylor during his year as Dacorum Mayor - has been splashed out to install a radio studio at Grovehill Community Centre in Henry Wells Square and the charity has just secured another £10,000 in Lottery cash to spend on training courses for people wanting to get involved.

Funds have also been boosted by many Herts County Councillors who have pledged cash from their Locality Budgets.

Loretta Anderson from Community Action Dacorum said: “We have had really good support from the borough generally.

“The main thing we want to do is be working with everyone from day one.

“We are open to any ideas of the best way to serve the people of the borough.”

Matt’s first broadcast will run from 4pm to 7pm and he will be on the air at that time everyday from Monday to Friday.

“We are trying to build it slowly but it will stream 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The schedules will gradually build,” said Loretta.
