New lift improves access at famous town museum
Disabled people can go upstairs at one the Tring's leading tourist attractions for the first time - thanks to a £445,000 lift.
The elevator installed at Tring's Natural History Museum will take people who cannot use the stairs to the exhibit's upper floors.
Museum manager Paul Kitching said: "About 10 years ago the museum had an access survey so someone came around and identified things we needed to work on.
"For the past 10 years we have been working on this list of recommendations."
Measure have also included having better bannisters and lighting.
Now Mr Kitching hopes the lift will attract more visitors.
He said: "We had a virtual tour in the past, but it is not the same as going round the galleries yourself.
"A lot of parents with young children in buggies, a lot of older people and all sorts of people who will benefit.
"I hope people will tell relatives and friends who have been prevented from getting to the upper galleries."
The museum is also having a new boiler fitted and has suggested alterations to Dacorum Borough Council to its rejected application for CCTV cameras.
