The latest planning application for the demolition of the New Mill Social Centre met with renewed opposition at Tring Town Council’s meeting on Monday.
The new document revealed that Tring Team Parish – which owns the hall but wants to demolish it to create six new homes, including one for a member of the clergy – was not willing to offer a financial contribution to Dacorum Borough Council to make up the loss of the hall as a community facility.
The church said it would, as a gesture of goodwill, resurface the car park at the nearby New Mill Chapel and provide disabled access.
The town councillors unanimously dismissed the offer, stating that the new application has not altered the situation.
But a decision on the application rests with the borough council’s development control committee, which will consider it at a later date.
