A TOP skateboarder from Hemel Hempstead, who is sponsored by a town firm, is teaching youngsters – and their dads – how to skate.

Josh Ward-Brickett, 19, of Cowper Lane, is offering lessons at the XC Centre and Gadebridge Park skate park.

Josh started teaching snowboarding at Hemel Snow Centre when it opened three years ago after managers advertised for instructor roles.

When the XC opened its doors last year Josh decided to take the initiative and ask if he could hold lessons at the centre, using the teaching skills developed at the snow centre where he is still on the team.

The former JFK and Hemel Hempstead School pupil has skated since he was 14, and has taken part in a number of competitions in London and St Albans.

Josh, who is sponsored by Hemel-based skating company Discipline, said: “I love skating, and when I was younger I used to practice every day after school.

“The kids I teach progress really well, especially with one-to-one lessons, and some of the dads have even taken lessons to impress their kids.”
