Berkhamsted’s mayor Ron Cowie listed plans for a multi-storey car park in the town as one of the successes during his time in office.
The councillor was speaking at his recent civic dinner and said the £3 million three floor facility will “surely do something the improve the situation.”
Dacorum Borough Council came up with the parking plan after proposals for permits in a bid to tackle the market town’s congested roads were scrapped after a massive backlash from householders. But Mr Cowie said it was something the people had asked for and then later changed their minds.
The multi-storey car park would be based on the site of an existing open plan car park in Lower Kings Road.
The borough council is currently working with consultants who are carrying out a feasibility study of the area.
Spokesman Katie Warner said: “We are hoping to report our findings to cabinet in three to four months.”
After this timescales for the project will be drawn up.
