An MP has warned her local club against appointing Malky Mackay as its next manager.
Mackay, from Berkhamsted, reportedly sent texts that were of a ‘racist, sexist or homophobic’ nature while at Cardiff City last year.
Although Mackay admitted sending the messages he denied he was racist, sexist, homophobic or anti-Semitic.
However, Labour MP for Wigan Lisa Nandy has urged Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan not to appoint the 42-year-old as the club’s next boss.
Ms Nandy wrote to Mr Whelan saying that ‘she had ben contacted by a number of constituents’ who had asked her to voice their concerns about the potential appointment of Mackay following press reports linking him with the post.
She later tweeted: “It’s up to Wigan Athletic who they appoint as manager but I have written to ask that they take fans’ views into account.’
