A Hemel businessman who faced missing out on a family holiday to Egypt when his passport renewal got ‘lost in the system’ has thanked MP Mike Penning for saving the day.
Darren Miles, 44, who runs the Function Rooms and Olly’s Bar in the town, said he had sent off for his new passport by recorded delivery in plenty of time to make the family getaway.
But he was told the passport could not be found and faced the prospect of missing out on the break last week.
In a last ditch bid to track down the passport, Darren contacted Mr Penning to see if he could help.
“I know he’s a guy that gets stuff done,” Darren said.
“I had his office in contact with me every day keeping me updated, which was reassuring in itself knowing that something was being done to help.
“They gave me a stage by stage update and they really put their foot down and they found my passport, which I was told ‘could have been anywhere’.”
Darren managed to get the passport back just in time to make the flight and says the people of Hemel are lucky to have Mr Penning representing the town.
He added: “My family wouldn’t have been happy, so it is amazing to have got it sorted the way he did, a great relief.
“Like I said, he is a guy that gets stuff done and a massive asset to Hemel. I am proud to have him as our MP.
“The guys does all that he does and still takes the time out to help with something like this.
“I think he deserves some recognition, he is very proactive.”
