HEMEL Hempstead MP Mike Penning has been casting an eye over a new rural police vehicle.

Mr Penning joined rural special constables Richard Downs and Nigel Lacey to find out how the Land Rover has been used since its trial period began in April.

The vehicle has already covered 1,300 miles in rural areas of Dacorum’s Watling Ward – Great Gaddesden, Flamstead and Markyate.

And Mr Penning was evidently impressed with what he saw on his visit, saying: “I welcome this new initiative and fully support the rural police patrol.

“The benefits of a specially assigned vehicle are abundantly clear and I very much hope that this will become a permanent feature.”
