Mother duck brings her children to school

A mother duck must think Pixies Hill Primary is a quacking great school, because she’s brought her second brood of ducklings to live there.

The feathered family has been getting the pupils in a flap, as each class has been out to visit the mum and her 14 young.

A mother duck and her 14 young have moved in to Pixies Hill Primary School, Hemel Hempstead.

School secretary Karin Barton said: “Although she hasn’t introduced herself, we do think this is the same mum who came to live here last year. She probably just thought it was a safe place, because we put out some food and a paddle pool for them, and within the school grounds she is safe from foxes.

“The children have all been out and had a look at them. It is one of those things you couldn’t plan for primary school children to see but it is lovely that it has happened again.”

Last year, Pixies Hill arranged for Buckinghamshire-based wildlife hospital Tiggywinkles to collect the ducklings before they grew too big. They will do the same before these little ones are able to fly.
