There’s help at hand to stub it out on National No Smoking day

If you’re a smoker trying to kick the habit, you needn’t go it alone on National No Smoking Day.

The Medicx pharmacy in Apsley is urging those who want to quit to approach to them for help and support.

Specially trained advisors at the London Road branch offer one-to-one consultations with smokers to discuss their lifestyle, reasons for quitting and the best way to go about it.

But it’s not just the traditional cigarettes which can harm your health – trendy shisha pipes and electronic cigarettes can also have an effect.

Pharmacy manager Herpreet Sharma said: “We all know how bad smoking traditional cigarettes is on your health, but fewer realise how harmful shisha smoking and e-cigarettes can be.”

In a one hour shisha-smoking session, you can inhale the same amount of smoke that’s in 100 cigarettes and because e-cigarettes are unregulated, their contents could also be damaging to your health.

Herpreet said: “We measure patients’ carbon monoxide levels and our team will advise you on the best approach to quitting. We can meet with you at regular intervals to give you the encouragement and support you need.”
