A couple who founded the Berkhamsted Tool Hire Shop are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary today.

Chris and Vic Spratt were married in the town’s St Peter’s Church on June 12, 1954, and had three sons.

They opened their shop 42 years ago. Its management has since been passed to their son Stuart and his wife Lesley.

It is the oldest store in town to still belong to the people who opened it.

Chris – who is now 79 and lives with 82-year-old husband Vic in Tring Road, Wilstone – said: “Staying together has been easy. You just keep happy and keep going, do not give up and be very tolerant with each other. And you love each other.”
