Sisters sign up for half marathon in memory of dad Tony

Running fever has hit Berkhamsted with the half marathon and fun run just a few weeks away.

All entry fees from the event are being shared between The Hospice of St Francis and the Pepper Foundation but the Hospice is also keen to hear from anyone who would like to raise money in aid of its care by securing sponsorship to run the 13 or five-mile course.

Berkhamsted resident Louise Bandle has already signed up and is running in memory of her dad Tony who was cared for at the Hospice in 2012.

Mum of two Louise, who works at Greenway School, is running with her sister Charlotte Norwood and friend Amanda Hanna as TeamTone.

She is already pounding the local streets in training for the event as she looks to raise at least £300.

“We’re running the half marathon to say thank you to the Hospice for the amazing care they gave my dad,” said Louise.

“We want to run to raise funds to help the Hospice carry on its great work and help people going through what we went through and also to say thank you for taking such great care of our daddy.”

The Hospice hopes Louise will inspire others to use their places in the Berkhamsted half marathon or other races like the London Marathon to secure sponsorship for the charity, which cares for people living with life-shortening illnesses.

The Hospice also has places available for the Great North Run on Sunday, September 7 for those who’d like to start training now.

Andrew Powell from Berkhamsted chose to run the Great North Run for the Hospice last year. He said: “I wanted to set myself a challenge and thought I’d try the world’s largest half marathon so signed up.

“I decided to run for the Hospice because it’s a great local charity and I can’t emphasise enough how much the sponsorship helped motivate me to get up at 5am for long training runs!

“In the end I completed the course in 1hr 37 minutes and raised just over £1,200.”
