A woman whose brother died suddenly from a heart condition has jumped thousands of feet out of a plane to help save others with the same rare disorder.

Zoey Morris performed a skydive in order to raise enough money to buy a defibrillator for Hemel Hempstead’s Olympian Gym, where her beloved sibling Damien Woods, 25, died two years ago.
Zoey said: “Damien died from a heart condition called Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy which we never knew he had until he sadly passed away.

“CPR was done by another gym-member for a long time but had there been a defibrillator, they may have had a better chance. We don’t know if it would have worked on Damien, but it could work on another person and save their life.

“Damien was a very determied person – if he wanted it or to get there, he would.”

Before his death Damien had underaken sniper training while in the army, and had also served in Iraq.

He had started security work, and was weeks away from going to do undercover work in Somalia on pirate activity in the African country.

Along with a defibrillator for the gym, Zoey hopes to raise enough for the life-saving kit to be installed at Damien’s former school Longdean, as well as Woodfield School, where she works.

If there is any money left over, she hopes to put it towards Woodfield’s new hydrotherapy pool campaign.

Zoey, who undertook the daring skydive with friends including Damien’s cousin Will Tse, said: “We all enjoyed doing this and are still hoping to have people sponsor us so that we can raise enough for the three heart difibrillators and hopefully some for Woodfield Association School Partners for their new hydrotheraphy pool. We’re keeping our fingers crossed!”
