Hemel Hempstead features in several archaic British Pathé films which have been transferred from its archive to popular video upload site Youtube.

The UK newsreel archive company’s collection of 85,000 historic videos have been added to the social sharing site in high resolution.

One clip entitled ‘Old Town facelift aka Hemel Hempstead New Town’ from 1969 has already had more than 500 views on Youtube and has been shared on Facebook site Hemel Hempstead Remembered. Various newsclips featuring the town have also been made available, including one which appears to feature footage from the Queen’s 1952 opening of Adeyfield’s Queen’s Square.

The overall collection spans 1896 to 1976 and includes around 3,500 hours of historical footage of major events, fashion, travel, sport and culture. It also includes extensive film from World War I and II.
