Roman soldiers invaded Wilstone on Sunday – but have no fear, the invasion was not real.

It was being performed by enactment group Vicus as part of the village’s annual fete, which began with a parade at 12.30pm.

The Vicus did battle with the Ancient Wilstonians for control of the empire before the fete was opened by Queeen Jane and the donkeys outside of Wilstone Village Hall.

The Wilstone Showgirls dance troupe joined in the fun, donning fancy dress for the occasion.

Chairman of the fete Jill Walker – herself a Wilstone Showgirl – said: “This was your quintessential village fete.

“You have got all of your traditional fete-type things and it’s so well done. Everyone does their bit with pride.”

The fete included a Caesar’s Palace bar, cake stall, bouncy castle, crazy golf, coconut shy, tombola, raffle and more. There was even a fun dog show.
