A Question Time-style hustings event ahead of next month’s European elections is to be held on Wednesday.
Churches Together in Hemel Hempstead have organised the question and answer panel with Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Labour representatives, as well as those from the Green Party and UKIP.
The elections for local representatives to European Parliament will be held on May 22, coinciding with this year’s local elections.
The Churches Together group hosted a similar public meeting in advance of the 2010 general election, which, according to group secretary Dave Chapman was a great success.
He said: “Whenever there is a major election we like to put on an opportunity to meet candidates on neutral ground.
“It’s not a party political thing and not just for church-goers – anyone can put questions to the parties.
“We want to encourage people to engage with the electoral process and get them to participate.”
Current European MEPs for the Eastern Region Stuart Agnew of UKIP and Liberal Democrat Andrew Duff are among the panellists for the evening, along with prospective candidates Conservative John Flack, the Green Party’s Jill Mills and Chris Ostrowski of Labour.
The event takes place at Haven House on London Road at 7.30pm.
