The campaigner heading calls for a splash park in Hemel Hempstead will meet with Dacorum’s movers and shakers this week.

Dad-of-three Ben Armstrong is due to meet with Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning on Wednesday.

“He is all for the cause and he wants to help us,” said Ben, of Chaulden, who is also due to speak to Dacorum Borough Council’s leader Councillor Andrew Williams.

Both politicians have already expressed their support for a splash pool in Gadebridge Park.

On Sunday, a picnic was held in the park to raise awareness of the campaign, which started on Facebook and now an online petition has attracted almost 1,800 signatures.

Ben said: “It went really well. We had about 15 families there and I had quite a lot of people coming up and thanking me for setting it up.”

As part of the campaign there are also calls for better toilet facilities and a cafe in the popular Hemel Hempstead park.

Mr Williams has already said that a splash park is something the council would ‘love’ to provide, subject to gaining funding for it.

A paddling pool in the park, which was often targeted by vandals, was closed by the council around 10 years ago.

If the new splash park goes ahead it would save families a trip to Watford or St Albans where fun water facilities already exist.
