A dad-of-three has launched a petition in a bid to get better facilities for little ones at Gadebridge Park.

Ben Armstrong, of Chaulden, has teamed up with other parents to call for action after visiting the children’s playground within the popular Hemel Hempstead park.

He said: “One of the big swings was missing and there was smashed glass on the floor that had been there for a few days.”

Campaigning mums and dads would like to see a splash park installed similar to those already at Verulamium Park in St Albans and Watford’s Cassiobury Park.

The call comes as children embark on the summer holiday break and it has already attracted lots of attention through a Hemel Hempstead discussion page on Facebook.

So far the petition on Change.org has got more than 1,500 signatures.

Delivery driver, Ben, 32, said: “I got 1,000 people’s signatures within 24 hours and I didn’t expect that.”

He said that better facilities for children could, in turn, boost business for the nearby and recently refurbished Old Town.

The petition also ask for better toilet facilies and a cafe.

A paddling pool in Gadebridge Park, which was often targeted by vandals, was closed by Dacorum Borough Council around 10 years ago.

Ben said: “If the council say they can’t afford it, we are going to try for sponsorship.”
