A group of friends who grew up together in Hemel Hempstead are hoping they don’t go bust as they prepare for a continental banger rally for charity.
Naming themselves the Highfield Hillbillies, childhood chums Ross Batchelor, 32, Jason Barley, 35, and Chris Bates and Peter Cairns, both 27, are taking on an unusual challenge for good causes close to their hearts.
The charities the team have picked are Leukaemia and Lymphoma Unit, the UCLH Charity, Macmillan Cancer Support and the British Heart Foundation, which have all made a difference to their lives or the lives of those close to them.
The pals, who all grew up in Highfield, are driving from Belgium to Monte Carlo in a pimped-up banger which event rules stated had to cost less than £200.
The trip will hit Freiburg in Germany and Italy’s Lake Como before culminating in a ride around the Monte Carlo F1 track.
The group have secured sponsorship from a range of Dacorum businesses who have provided raffle prizes, which will be drawn at The Steamcoach pub in Boxmoor on Sunday, june 1.
