During half term week, three coaches full of beavers, cubs and scouts from the 1st Apsley and 1st Gadebridge groups left the Phasels Wood activity centre at Kings Langley heading for a scientific adventure.
The young people arrived at London’s Science Museum ready for a day of mind-expanding fun making the most of the interactive displays.
They were divided into groups and with the help of many leaders they set off to discover where energy comes from, what electricity feels like, and what part Sputnik 1 played in the story of exploration.
Throughout the day, their uniforms could be spotted in every gallery, but the favourite destinations seemed to be Exploring Space and Energy.
Elsewhere, fundraising has started in earnest for the World Jamboree and the summer expedition to Lockearnhead, so parents from the district attended an evening of wine tasting which raised around £1,200 towards the cost of these trips.
1st Apsley Scouts had their winter Badge Bonanza camp at Well End in Borehamwood, where they worked towards seven badges.
From wiring plugs, learning about safety of DIY and recognising hazard signs, to making powerpoint presentations and adverts, writing press releases and letters to the council, building Lego models and a Ready Steady Cook style competition, the scouts managed to complete five badges, and after a small amount of homework will be awarded public relations, administrator, photographer, chef, model maker, DIY and communicator badges.
As a reward for all their hard work, and to learn about a local media outlet, the scouts completed their task with a visit to Radio Dacorum, where station manager Matt Hatton interviewed them all do discuss their experiences!
