The area’s Rotarians will be collecting unwanted tools and sewing machines at Berkhamsted Market tomorrow and next Saturday, so that they can pass them on to two charities.

The Rotary Club of Berkhamsted Bulbourne collects the items throughout the year. They are passed on to charities Tools for Self Reliance and Workaid, where they are refurbished and assembled into kits.

Most of these go to Africa where a good set of tools can help people acquire skills and earn a living for themselves and their family.

Rotary club spokesman Geoff Budd said: “Spring is traditionally the time of year when our thoughts turn to having a good tidy up of our homes, garages and garden sheds.

“But, what to do with all those rusty old tools and bits of equipment, not used for years and just gathering dust in dark corners?

“Whatever you do, don’t throw them out. The Rotary Club of Berkhamsted Bulbourne can put them to good use once more.”

If you have items you want to get rid of but can’t get them to the market, ring Peter Wilkinson on 01442 871536 to arrange for them to be collected from your home.
