A Hemel Hempstead town centre mall has announced it will be welcoming a discount pound shop to its collection of stores this summer.
The Marlowes Shopping Centre revealed that Poundworld will open a new 10,000 sq ft unit later in the year.
Yorkshire-based Poundworld developed from a market stall into a national retail chain and boasts around 250 shops across the UK, offering thousands of products at the price of just one golden roundy.
The thrifty brand will take up the space formerly used by Waterstones, along with the unit which housed clothing and gift boutique Dolly before it relocated to the opposite side of the shopping parade.
Centre manager Vince Williams said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Poundworld into the Marlowes, and are sure that the store will be popular with our shoppers.”
The mall’s retail marketing executive Cassie Peasnell also described it as ‘great news’ for the centre and said the move signals companies buying into the town.
Hemel Hempstead already plays host to two similar discount stores – Poundland and The 99p Store – both of which are just outside the shopping centre on Marlowes.
The shopping area also features a B&M and a plethora of charity stores. The Marlowes Shopping Centre has recently seen other brands investing in the mall with two of its existing shops – Clintons card store and Warren James jewellers – undergoing a refit.
Poundworld’s new tenancy also coincides with the expansion of The Perfume Shop, which relocated to a larger unit next door and has signed a new 10-year lease.
