The chairman of Hertfordshire County Council has been re-elected to serve for another year.
Richard Smith will continue in the role of chairman of the council with Peter Ruffles remaining as his vice-chairman.
Richard has represented the Welwyn Division for the more than 20 years and will continue to offer his wide experience to the role.
Peter has represented the St Andrews Division of Hertford since 2001 and has previously served as Mayor of Hertford and Chairman of East Herts District Council.
As well as chairing meetings of the full council, the chairman represents the county council at civic events within Hertfordshire and elsewhere, and his office welcomes invitations from those organising events that the council may wish to attend.
Speaking after his re-election, Richard Smith said: “It has been a great honour to be Chairman of the Council for the past year and I’m delighted to be given the chance to serve for another. I’m looking forward to representing Hertfordshire County Council at a wide range of events.”
Robert Gordon, Leader of Hertfordshire County Council, said: “I would like to congratulate Richard and Peter for their re-election as Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively. Over the past year they have fulfilled their duties splendidly and I’m sure they will build on that excellent work over the next.”
