Miss Herts hopes charity dress will lead to victory
A Miss England contestant is hoping to wow judges in a wedding dress purchased from a charity shop.
Amy Green, already crowned Miss Herts, will don the handmade outfit complete with a veil as part of the competition final.
She hopes the frugal purchase from Oxfam in Berkhamsted, which cost 150, will bag her the title of Miss Eco in the closing stages, as well as the top accolade of Miss England.
"I wanted to get it from a charity shop rather than anywhere else. I just thought it was quite a good idea," said the Hemel Hempstead resident.
The 1950s ivory wedding dress was on sale at the High Street store as part of it's vintage themed fortnight.
Audrey Hope from the shop said: "The donor of the dress was thrilled to hear the news of the successful sale."
Miss Green, 21, who runs a telecommunications company with her dad, is up against 59 other finalists from across the country in the two day final, held yesterday and today (September 1).
"I'm really nervous. It has kind of hit me how much I want to win. It means a lot," she said.
If successful in her bid, Miss Green, of Arundel Close, hopes to be a positive role model for teenage girls as well as supporting charities.
