An investigation has been launched after a teenage girl was approached by men in a van as she waited to be collected by her mother.

Police are keen to stress that, at this stage, there is no evidence to suggest that the men outside homes in Gadebridge, Hemel Hempstead, were attempting to abduct the 13 year old.

However, enquiries are being made to establish exactly what happened.

A spokesman for Herts Police said: “Police have been made aware of an incident which occurred in Hemel Hempstead shortly after midday on Wednesday, August 12.

“A 13-year-old girl was reportedly spoken to by two men who were sitting in a van as she waited for her mum to collect her from a friend’s house in Gadebridge Road.

“It was reported that one of the men asked the girl if she wanted to wait in the van.

“It is believed at this stage that the man was concerned for the girl’s welfare, as she appeared to be upset.

“The girl did the right thing by not getting into the vehicle and contacting her mother.

“One of the men then removed some property from another vehicle parked nearby, before getting back into the van and leaving the area.

“Enquires are being carried out to establish the exact circumstances around what happened however, there is currently no evidence to suggest that the men were attempting to abduct the child.”
