Mayor taken to the eco-cleaners
A laundry company has received a £25,000 'green' make over.
Johnson Cleaners, on Berkhamsted High Street, says it has become the first dry cleaning business in Hertfordshire to get a licence to offer GreenEarth cleaning, which is a new liquid silicone cleaning solvent derived from natural sand- which is used in many shampoos, conditioners and lotions, and breaks down easily into natural elements if released into the environment.
To mark the move Berkhamsted Town Mayor, David Collins, visited the chain on Friday.
The investment is part of a 6million scheme to make 500 stores more eco friendly.
GreenEarth is available for the same price as traditional dry cleaning at Johnson Cleaners, but is meant to be kinder to clothes, skin and the environment.
The newly refurbished branch will use the latest eco-friendly equipment and its shop front and interiors have been given new signage.
Branch manager, Anthony Kay, said: "It's fantastic we've been chosen to be an official 'GreenEarth' store. A lot of hard work has gone into refurbishing the branch and we've all received additional training on the benefits of using greener cleaning technology."
The company's MD Paul Ogle, added: "Our customers are demanding more environmentally-friendly products and services. We take our responsibilities seriously."
