Children in a Ugandan slum have been sent two box-loads of kit from the Berkhamsted Raiders – as its managers strip off to fundraise for the youth football club.
The kit was handed over by Trevor Foley, who managed the club’s U11 team last year, and his Berkhamsted High Street-based firm TF Connect.
Mr Foley’s Events for Namuwongo project aims to raise £400,000 in two years to help the 200,000 people living in Namuwongo, a slum in southern Kampala.
They have raised £176,000 in the first seven months of the project and used it to improve the community’s drains and water supply.
In the last month, they found 18 dead bodies while clearing away 20 years’ worth of rubbish there.
Mr Foley said:“We are trying to give the people in one random slum in Uganda a better life.”
Meanwhile, Raiders social secretary Kelly Darrington has arranged a naked calendar for 2013.
Its managers, mostly dads of boys in its teams, will pose nude for each month, but some lady managers of its girls teams will also be in it.
Among the posers is Phil Casserley, who was manager of Tring Athletic Football Club until June last year.
Raiders chairman Keith Pollard said: “The chairman will not be appearing.
“I thought it would be unfair to outshine the others. We do not want the calendar stuck on one particular month now, do we?”
Strategically-placed footballs and other items will be used during the calendar photoshoot next weekend and it is expected to be on sale from late November.
