Shoppers got more than they bargained for when they ventured into Hemel Hempstead’s town centre on Sunday.
A whole host of entertainment was on offer in Marlowes to raise cash for Dacorum Mayor Penny Hearn’s chosen charity for the year, the Pepper Foundation.
There were performances from Hemel Hempstead Band, Sambuka Percussion, Revelation Majorettes, demonstrations from Streetwise Self Defence, Herts Fire and Rescue Service, Hoots R Us Owls were a crowd pleaser and there were craft and charity stalls to browse.
Organiser Martin Crowhurst, who has been putting on an annual fundraiser for the mayor’s charity for many years, said: “It is the first time we have held the Mayor’s Fun Day in the town centre and it went extremely well.
“We usually hold it in Gadebridge Park but we changed this year to the town centre – it is where the public are going to be and it is nice to have things going on in the town centre.”
It is not yet known how much the day has raised for The Pepper Foundation, which is being supported by Councillor Hearn during her year in office.
She said: “Martin does an awfully good job and raises a lot of money. I do appreciate his efforts.”
