The animals at Whipsnade Zoo got their fangs into some tasty treats, as they were dished up pumpkin platters to get them into the spooky spirit.
Meerkats Paul, George and Ringo enjoyed a breakfast of crickets hidden inside Jack O’Lanterns, while the zoo’s oriental small-clawed otters were dished up fish-filled pumpkins as they joined in with the Halloween celebrations.
Zookeepers also stuffed pumpkins full of spooky snacks for some of the other animals, including the chimpanzees and ring-tailed lemurs, to form part of their regular enrichment programme - stimulating their natural behaviours as they forage for the food inside.
Visitors to the zoo this half term can enjoy a day of fiendish fun at Boo at the Zoo, including a spine-tingling series of animal talks, feeds and demonstrations.
Other devilish delights include terrifying touch tables and eerie enrichment-making workshops, as well as creepy crafts where children can make menacing masks or trick-or-treat lanterns.
