Pudsey the Bear has been out and about in Hemel Hempstead during the run up to the BBC’s fundraising Children in Need.

First the cuddly bear was at Marlowes Shopping Centre on Friday helping staff from Haven Holidays sell cakes at a pop-up bakery to raise cash for the cause.

Shoppers could also have their picture taken with Pudsey and Haven mascots Rory the Tiger and Anxious the Elephant.

Pictures were taken and put into a frame, keyring or fridge magnet for donors by Hemel Hempstead firm IMedia.

Haven Holiday spokesman Naomi Woodstock said: “I think we must have had at least 400 visitors.

“It has to be said Pudsey was probably the most popular – everyone knew him, young and old.”

The holiday company, which raised around £1,200, will be using its Park Lane call centre to take pledges of cash from television viewers during the fundraising show on Friday, November 16.

Its own holiday booking lines will be closed on the night so that staff, who are giving their time for free, can concentrate on the cause.

Town centre bakery Greggs has also been doing its bit to help little ones in need.

The store in Marlowes hosted a two-day fundraiser from Friday with a fun day on Saturday in neighbouring Market Square with face painting, competitions, a raffle and Pudsey himself.

Store manager Joel Wheeler, who thanked all of the local companies that helped make the event possible, said: “It was quite cold but a lot of people turned up.”

The total amount raised is still being counted and edible goodies for Children in Need are still on sale at the shop.
