A STRUGGLING bowls club has been saved after 20 new members signed up at the launch of its new clubhouse.

It had last year introduced croquet as a sport there, becoming the Little Gaddesden Bowls and Croquet Club, in an effort to turn around drastically falling member numbers.

The Gazette reported earlier this year that it was at risk of closure in its 60th anniversary year unless something was done.

But at the launch of its refurbished clubhouse at the end April, 20 new people signed up and more could soon follow.

Membership secretary Marika Woods said: “Over a hundred people crammed into the building to listen to live jazz by the Elite Strollers and enjoy a delicious buffet.”

The clubhouse is also available for private hire. To become a club member or learn more, visit www.lgbcc.co.uk
