‘Ivy the torchbearer’ cheering on Team GB from Wilstone

THE owners of this home will be keeping their ivy trim now they have realised that it was growing in the shape of an Olympic torchbearer.
Passers-by stop and take photographs when they see Jill and Peter Walker’s Wilstone house where the topical topiary is proudly displayed.
To complete the picture, Peter has fashioned an Olympic torch out of plasterboard and decorated it in Union Jack red, white and blue using glitter nail varnish.
Jill said: “It was our neighbours who pointed out what the ivy looked like and we thought it was fantastic. Now we are going to keep it up throughout the London Olympics. When people see it they say how wonderful it is.”
The five-year-old ivy grew in the shape of a man running by pure chance.
Now the couple have quite a chore on their hands as the greenery is about 30 feet tall and needs constant trimming.
Jill said: “We have ended up doing more topiary on it and we will have to keep it up because the ivy grows profusely.”
