PART of the canal at Bourne End will be pumped with oxygen after reports of dead fish.
Officers from British Waterways, the Environment Agency and Thames Water visited the Hemel Hempstead stretch of the Grand Union Canal after a boater alerted officials.
Environment Agency spokesman Joe Giacomelli said: “We found one or two dead fish there and a few fish in distress gasping for air. We are going to boost the oxygen levels using an oxi-jet.
“British Waterways will temporarily open the locks because this helps to increase the oxygen levels in the water.
“We are still unsure about what has caused it. We haven’t seen any visible signs of pollution but our investigations are ongoing.
“If anyone does have any information which could help with our investigation they can call us on 0800 80 70 60.”
