International backing for pensioner’s loos mission
THE British Toilet Association has stepped in to advise a pensioner on his campaign to have public loos installed at a historic landmark.
John Waller, 69, has been arguing that toilets should be installed at Berkhamsted Castle for years.
The group has emailed him with a list of things he could do to benefit his campaign, including tracking how many people visit the site each month.
English Heritage, which owns the site, said toilets would be too expensive and inappropriate there.
Berkhamsted Town Council argues that they would look unsightly in the historic setting.
Mr Waller disagrees: “They are not as unsightly as a lump of poo with a bit of tissue paper stuck to it.”
He says the castle is ‘one of the most important historical sites in England’ and that it deserves its own toilets.
Scores of letters backing Mr Waller’s campaign have been sent to the Gazette from as far afield as Tennessee, USA.
