MAIL: More than 500 people signed a petition to save a town’s post collection service.

Berkhamsted sorting office is due to close next month so the Royal Mail service can be centralised in Hemel Hempstead.

A petition by Berkhamsted Citizens Association to say the town should keep a collection service for unsent mail was signed by 500 at the town market on Saturday.

The Royal Mail says post can be redelivered free when it can’t be sent the first time, and the closure is down to falling mail volumes.
