WHEELBARROW and drag races, teenage hurdles and trike and bike races for under-fives are among the highlights of a fun day to remember Anne.

Dagnall’s Day @ the Races will be held in the village recreation ground from 2.30pm on Saturday, and there will be a hog roast and live band from 7pm.

There will also be face painting, two bouncy castles, a Pimm’s tent and a raffle.

The day is in memory of former Edlesborough Parish Council chairman Anne Thompson, who was looked after by The Hospice of St Francis before she died on October 9 last year.

Tickets are £8.50 for adults and £2 for children, and all proceeds will go to the hospice, based near Berkhamsted.

Three of Anne’s children and two of her family friends will take part in a 137-mile marathon through the Amazonian jungle on the first anniversary of her death later this year.

They’ve so far raised about £10,000 for their efforts.

Anne’s daughter Sally Thorne said: “Race day will be a great village event with fun for all the family. Everyone will go away having enjoyed themselves, thinking, ‘That was a great day.’

“We have raised £1,000 for the hospice through ticket sales, and hope to raise at least £2,000 more. But there will be free activities on the day too.”
