A town centre shop that gave out free books is hoping to reopen its doors after closing at the end of January.
Healthy Planet Books for Free was forced to shut after a leak damaged the electrics and made the building in Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead, unsafe to use.
Logistics manager Chin Cheng said: “At the moment we are having difficulties in resolving all the maintenance issues, but as soon as the building is safe we will kick off.”
The shop, which first opened in April last year, distributes books destined for landfill or pulp, as part of one of the Healthy Planet Foundation’s many green projects.
It proved popular with shoppers, shifting 1,000 books in its first month alone.
The scheme is run entirely by volunteers and book suppliers include publishers who have a surplus of books.
