Help older folk by becoming a volunteer with Age Concern

A good cause that helps older folk needs people with an hour to spare each week to help out.

Age Concern needs people who can pop in to see an older person, have a chat and maybe make a cuppa.

You’ll need a good sense of humour, lots of patience, be willing to listen and enjoy the company of older people.

Help is particularly needed in the areas of Hemel Hempstead, Markyate, Berkhamsted and Tring.

Helpers must have their own transport.

> Volunteers are needed to help people get back on their feet and settled in at home after being discharged from hospital.

This short-term flexible volunteering post with Age Concern would involve visiting people aged 55 and over in their own homes during the daytime, once a week for up to eight weeks.

Duties could include doing some essential shopping and collecting prescriptions, as well as providing support and companionship.

>Home-grown charity Hope for Children needs an events assistant who will contact fundraisers to congratulate and thank them for their achievements.

Other duties would include replying to emails, answering voice mails and promoting events online through blog posts.

The right volunteer will have good IT skills, competent with Microsoft - especially Word and Excel - able to work as part of a team and have the ability to inspire supporters.
