Doctors are warning cold-sufferers not to expect antibiotics if they visit their GP.

Health bosses say most coughs and colds are caused by viruses, which are not treatable with antibiotics.

Herts Primary Care Trust says the way to treat a cold is drinking fluids and resting with paracetemol to relieve symptoms.

The message is being sent out as part of European Antibiotics Awareness Day, which warns of the consequences of their over-use.
